A participant centered nutrition assessment is the “heart and soul” of the WIC program. This process allows CPAs to develop a rapport and a collaborative relationship with the participant, gather important mandatory and relevant nutrition and health information and with input from the participant, develop a strong nutrition plan for improving health and nutrition outcomes. As participants take ownership of their nutrition plan, it likely leads to improved behavior change and ultimately healthier children and families.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Explain the rationale for conducting a PCNA
- Demonstrate how to develop rapport to elicit mandatory and relevant information necessary for a nutrition assessment in a participant-centered manner
- Identify and practice at least three communication techniques used to ensure a PCNA
